Here's a simple formula for generating affiliate profits:
Attract or buy traffic to a one- or
two-page mini Web site, where users can take only one
action. An action can be making a purchase or giving out
contact information.
I'll cover some good resources
for generating traffic, then look at how simple sites
generate profits.
When it comes to figuring out how
much to bid on keywords or compensate affiliates, use the
following guideline: If you can generate more money in
commissions than you spend on attracting traffic, you have
a winner.
Get Traffic for Cheap
Where do you find
traffic online? Try these strategies.
Attract search engine
users. This takes time and dedication. If your
business has the resources, I recommend you hire a
responsible high-school kid and give him or her $500
(U.S.) worth of software and training materials, such as
keyword density analysis and submission automation
programs, in return for revenue-sharing compensation.
The three key training resources
are Stephen Mahaney's
Search Engine News
newsletter and
book, "The UnFair
Advantage Book on Winning the Search Engine Wars" (the
book is free with a $97 six-month subscription to the
newsletter), and Michael W. Campbell's $38
book, "Nothing But
Net: How I Generated $750,000 in Internet Revenues With
Virtually No Advertising Costs." And check out Danny
Sullivan's free site
SearchEngineWatch.com.
The first three resources are
worth the investment if you want to do search engine work.
Mahaney's book gives you the real keys to getting top
search engine positioning, and it's updated monthly with
current variables and information. Search engine
optimization companies read it to get up-to-date
information.
Buy traffic on a
pay-per-click basis. Use pay-for-placement (PFP)
search engines. Sites such as
GoTo,
FindWhat and
Search 123 allow you to
determine your company's search results placement by
bidding on relevant keywords. When visitors click on a
link to your site from PFP search engines, you pay the
amount you bid, which is usually 1 cent to about $1. You
get targeted traffic at a cost you determine.
Allan Gardyne, who runs
AssociatePrograms.com,
has a very good site on PFP search engines called
PayPerClickSearchEngines.com.

Create Tempting Minisites
Sites with multiple
products, pages and links are popular but unnecessary. It's
better to give users one option instead — so they're not
overwhelmed — by creating a minisite.
A minisite is a one- or two-page Web
site with its own domain name. It has only one purpose: to
encourage one specific action from visitors. This action can be
buying your — or your affiliate's — product, or giving you
contact information.
Gardyne has written a series of
articles that explain minisites in detail:
The
best resource is Marlon Sanders' "Gimme My Money Now" e-book,
available online for $97. Sanders practices what he preaches: He
has a two-page site. Page 1 is the
sales letter explaining the
minisite concept and page 2 is the
order form. You can also take a

Now, Repeat the Process
I know this sounds
simple, but that's the point. Create a minisite for each
product. Drive targeted traffic through search sites, PFP search
engines or affiliate programs.
There is some work involved, but you
can make $500 to $1,500 a month per domain if you work it right.
Take advantage of the resources in this
article, follow the advice and go to work.
